To all game enthusiasts present who have played Undertale: is this game really that damn good? I've read nothing but laudatory review and praise for this game series, and I would very much like to know if a game like Undertale merits such praise, or if it's all a load of merde. Kindly tell me yea or nay, and give a detailed description why. I'm not asking for a college-level essay, but something of moderate length and with not too academic a tone to it.
Sincerely, PearlQuartz17

Well, I kinda like and dislike that game, but I know enough about it from the fans telling me about it all. I have some problems with it, but still.
Like I enjoy the Touhou-esque Dodging System to it, and the Skeleton Bros, Sans and Papyrus, are kinda humorous and likeable.
However here's some of the problems I have with the game, and why I don't really find it to be that awesome (and why I am probably not buying it). Though I'm not saying it's a terrible game though.
-You only have one type of attack, a single Timing-Based attack. Actually good RPGs have a variety of attacks to use, mainly in the forum of stronger attacks that cost MP or something like that to use, like what Final Fantasy, Persona, Earthbound, and such have. None of that and only one single type of attack makes the battles rather stilted and boring for me.
-No Status Ailments that you or enemies can inflict, (like Poison, Stun, etc), which actually good RPGs have (and in many of them are key to victory). Oh and RPGs with unique dodging mechanics can still have that, like Megaman Battle Network and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga had unique dodging and still used those too.
-Very little variety among one-time use consumable items. All of the consumable items are HP recovery items (and in Pacifist Run, practically all of them do the same thing). Actually good RPGs have a lot of different types, such as instant run-away items, one-time use item attacks, MP Recovery Items, temporary stat boost items, etc.
-I'm just not a fan of how the game sort of "punishes" you for not sparing all these guys who try to murder you, and a lot of the stuff is a bit too silly for me. Like two armed guards try to kill you, and you get out of it by just "Telling them to express their feelings." Or one where this Girly Spider Gal sics her giant spider pet on you, and you're supposed to just hand her money?! And if you don't do this Goody-Two-Shoes stuff, it gives you a bad ending where the boy turns evil. Not to mention, in the Pacifist Route, you're supposed to basically just stand there and do stupid stuff while the enemy goes all out on you and just take it like it's no big deal. While in Genocide, these super tough bosses instead do practically nothing, and you kill almost all of them in like one hit (with only a few exceptions who end up being harder).
This is how I feel about most of the Genocide Route in Undertale. This scene from Xionic Madness sums it up well.
Seriously! This is stupid. In fact, it's this sort of stuff that made me despise My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic too!
Well that's what I have to say about Undertale.
