The room....wasn't a room. It was a vast, valley-like landscape with soft hills, periwinkle grass, silver-leaved trees and a deep blue sky with small white stars that twinkled softly. The door closed and disappeared. A gentle, cool breeze blew all around them.
They were on one of the hills of the valley. She smiled as she could see her mothers mansion and Moon Lake, with its giant silver willow tree swaying with the breeze.
The silver trees glowed softly as she ran by
Moon Lake was large and was almost round with a slight ovalness to the edges. The water was cool, clean and a deep sapphire blue. Periwinkle and white lotus blossoms dotted its immense surface.
A tall silver willow tree, its leaves swaying gently in the breeze, hovered over the lake, its roots close to the edge. There was a small space of grass in front of the willow tree for a place to sit by the waters edge.
As Mercy approached the lake, the willow tree started to glow warmly, as if the tree was greeting Mercy a friendly hello.
Mercy sat down at the clearing underneath the tree and touched the water with her hand.
"This lake was very special to my mother. It was a place where she could read, sing...and even dance." She grinned in anticipation.
"Want to see how?"
Mercy ran over to the trunk of the willow and placed her hand on a certain spot of the tree. Something clicked and a dark blue cloud completely hovered over the lake. The lotus blossoms sank under the surface..
Then the lake started to glow with a silver sheen. It thrummed gently. The willow tree swayed with the thrum of the lake. Then it was calm and quiet.
Mercy walked over to the edge and put her foot down on the surface. The lake rippled, but she didn't fall in. The surface of the lake had become an opaque mirror, looking for all the world like a silver full moon with a blue cast. Perfect for dancing.
As Mercy walked to the center, her footsteps left ripples.
"This is Dance Mode. When my mother crashed to Earth, she decided to go to a ballet academy to study. She was the top ballerina at her school. She used the Lake to practice. The willow tree can even play music, any song that you would like. It can play music even while in Lake mode."
Mercy walked to the tree and pressed another spot on the trunk. A pale blue mist materialized and glided over the surface. A man and woman appeared from the mist. They were clear blue and their skin sparkled. The man and woman were dressed in white clothing, the woman in a flowing dress and the man in a white suit. They bowed to each other and then music started to play and they danced.
The inside of the house was painted in different shades of blue, all tasteful and mild. Mercy stood in the foyer, but a chill swept over her and she shuddered a bit.....She needed to redesign this mansion. It reminded her of her dads house....and the memories.
"Kitchen, could you please make me a sandwich?"
The kitchen was silent, then it started to thrum gently. Drawers, cabinets and the fridge doors opened and closed, while ingredients and tools were pulled out by invisible hands. The sandwich was made with an air of careful grace, with the perfect amounts of food being placed in the right spots.
Finally, the sandwich was made, cut into triangle and placed on a plate and given to Mercy. "Thank you, kitchen." The kitchen thrummed again and went back to the way it was before. Just as clean and pristine as when they walked in.
Mercy finished her sandwich and put the plate on the counter. "You can make infinite kinds of sandwiches, all with different flavors. But we Humans make all kinds of foods, so many combinations and flavors and textures, the choices are ENDLESS."
"Now onto the rest of the house. Let me show you the bottom floors first." She led her through the rooms, chattering happily.
"We have the kitchen, the living room, which is a place to hang out and enjoy guests, the dining room is where we may feed any guests, a couple bathrooms for the guests to clean up and refresh if they have gotten messy and..." Mercy halted suddenly in front of two wide doors. Her chattering faded away as she stared at the huge things.
She started trembling a little. She stuttered. "A-and this i-is the s-study."
She grimaced at her stuttering and cleared her throat. "Its an e-e-exact replica of my f-fathers study."
The study was large with a space in the middle of the room and a huge mahogany desk and chair to the far end. The surrounding bookshelves were lined with books and trinkets. There was also a fireplace to the side of the room, along with a small fancy drink cart with decanters and glasses. to the other side were to small armchairs. When Dad had clients he would pull them up to his desk, but he usually left them in the corner.
Mercy shuddered when she saw the fireplace and decanters. She turned away.
"No, Uncle Heath painted the portrait using paints and pencils. The portrait is right behind his des-" Mercy turned to the desk and stopped talking when she saw the large swivel chair with it back towards them.
She was trying not to panic, but she paled and breathed uneasily. He was not in the chair, he can't be in the chair, He can't be here. Why was the chair like that?! It always faced forward in her mothers house. How was it like this?
She shakily walked up to the chair, reached out slowly and turned it to the front. It was empty. He wasn't there. Mercy sighed deeply in relief.
"A-anyway, here is my moms portrait." The painting was huge, covering three-quarters of the wall. It showed a close-up of a young, tall woman in a flowing, pale blue dress, sitting on a flower swing amde from white lotus blossoms and blue heather, smiling at the painter.
She had moon pale skin, with long locks of ebony black hair with deep blue streaks flowing through it. Her sapphire eyes sparkled gently, showing wisdom and gentleness of soul. Her Gemstone seemed to flash quietly.
She walked over to the fireplace. On the mantle were trinkets and picture frames.
Mercy froze when she saw the a certain picture. She picked it up, looked at it and handed it away. "...This was my father." She peered over the shoulder while they looked at him.
Santino Domini was a huge man, slightly portly but strong. He was handsome in a cruel way, with slicked back, brownish red hair and cold brown eyes. He had a slightly bushy mustache and side burns. He was staring at the photographer with a angry grimace on his face, like he was saying "You're wasting my time." In that picture, Mercy though he reminded her of Yellow Diamond, and how she had looked at Peridot with that disdainful expression. Like she meant nothing, that she was nothing.
Mercy walked up the stairs, explaining as she went.
"There are many rooms up here, but they have some stuff cluttered in them, so I'll only show about 4 rooms, the last one is a surprise."
Mercy open a door down the hall and walked in. It was a large room filled with dresses and outfits, from elaborate to simplistic, ALL of them beautiful.
"This is my dressmaking room, I love designing dresses for fun and making them." She pointed to a large weaving loom in the corner. "Some times I make the cloth through that loom. Its a magic loom, you can put flowers, leaves, feathers and jewels, anything at all and it will come out as the cloth you desire. You just have the watch the switches"
Mercy walked over to the loom and pressed a few switches. It hummed gently and the machine clicked-clacked together.
There were a few baskets filled with feathers and flowers and leaves. Mercy showed them the basket of jewels, explaining.
"Now before you freak out, let me explain. These jewels are not of Homeworld nor have they been made with Gem technology. These are just stones that were mined by Humans using a primitive process. So therefore, they are NOT like us Gems and err...Hybrid Gems."
Mercy smiled. "I love it. Now point the hologram at this mannequin" She gestured toward a mannequin on the left side of the room.
She did as she was told and Mercy spoke. "Mannequin and tools, make this dress for me,please. Using this design."
With the same amount of careful grace and delicacy of invisible hands as in the kitchen, the kimono was made.
It was a blue bedroom, with white edges. There was a bed, vanity and a closet. It was in simple, yet an impeccable taste.
"Onto the third room...and then the surprise."
She walked over to the next room and opened the door. It was a vast library, filled and overflowing with books.
There was a painting easel and a paint set in the corner, along with a couch, TV and armchair in the other corner. The TV was a nice size, not big or small. There were a few DVD shelves next to it, along with music CDs and a small radio next to them.
"This is the library, where you can read, paint or relax and watch movies."
She ran to a door and opened it out to the backyard
It was a fantasy garden. It had a large, silver fountain in the center and was surrounded by flowers in varying shades of blue, from royal to baby blue. There were even silver and white flowers scattered around.
The fountain was of a beautiful woman on a pedestal, holding a giant lotus with both hands. Water streamed from the lotus and from the sides of the pedestal into a lotus-shaped fountain. There were small white lotuss blossoms that floated around in the deep blue waters.
But if you looked closely at the statues feet...she wasn't exactly on the pedestal, she was floating a few inches above the pedestal.
The fountain glowed with a soft light, illuminating the garden.
