There have been a few theories floating around saying that Rose actually didn't shatter Pink Diamond and Garnet was just "stretching the truth" when she said that she did... I hope to the Lord above that she did. Why?
Simple:
There needs to be tension in her character and tension with Steven's view of her. That's what makes an interesting show and interesting character. This show has done excellent thus far in making a character that rarely has appearances and is technically dead in the show develop nicely. Rose is seen as an idol and hero to many but she held many secrets at the same time. That makes her an interesting character. Seeing these things revealed that seem to contradict the person Rose was... that makes interesting conflict. I don't want that conflict thrown out just because some fans are upset that Rose shattered someone.
"Rose would never do that though!"
Yeah, well, we didn't really know Rose all that well now did we? And this is an interesting development and is excellent considering the character doesn't have any real appearances in the show and most of her development is done through the dialogue of others. If we just turn around and go "PSYCH! Rose is the same Mary Sue she always was" then that'd be a step backward in character development. Let's face it, up to that point Rose Quartz was a Mary Sue, but her dark secrets that slowly unravel show that she isn't just a blank slate, she has complexity, moral indecision and struggles, and frankly makes mistakes. Take those away and you just have a Mary Sue.
So yes, I hope Rose shattered Pink Diamond.
